This was my first read of the Task Force Valor series, but I’m sur

Author: First Book Publish:2013 Books in series: 1 Avg. Book Rating:8.2 Characters: Truth Stained Lies (Moonlighters Book 1) First published: March 11th 2013Rating: 8.18 stars GoodReads:Truth Stained Lies Review: This is a well-written mystery about brothers and sisters who come together to find out who killed their sister-in-law. They need to clear their brother’s name and reunite him with a 5-year-old son he has lost in a custody battle. The stakes are high and the resolution is satisfying. It’s a great mystery in its own right, but I especially like it because it deals with forgiveness and serving others. It has a strong Christian message without being preachy.
Author: First Book Publish:2012 Books in series: 1 Avg. Book Rating:6.5 Characters: Finding Infinity (Finding Infinity Book 1) First published: July 4th 2012Rating: 6.5 stars GoodReads:Finding Infinity Review: The story had so much potential, but the characters were one dimensional and so many plot elements were sadly underdeveloped. Not sure I want to read anything else by this author.

Mia Caruso grew up under the roof of a tyrant. Her father was an enforcer for the DeLuca crime family who ruled his home with the same brutality that his job required, her mother was the silent trophy he’d always wanted and Mia was only ever in the way. She’d endured the abuse for years, her only solace was the hope that one day she would be free from his iron fists. Just shy of her eighteenth birthday and four months away from a fresh start at college, he showed up and turned her world upside down. Carlo DeLuca was at the top of his game, master of his own universe, he ran the most successful organized crime syndicate on the west coast. He’d worked his ass off to build his empire after his father had nearly bled it dry, and he wouldn’t allow anything to threaten that. Carlo ruled with a cold indifference…

It sounded a bit different from the m/m contemporary romances and mysteries I’d been reading up to that point. I didn’t buy it in the end for two reasons: Firstly, it is a sci-fi, a genre I’ve not really read very much and I wasn’t sure whether I would like it and secondly, I’d not read anything previously by this author and was unable to find a review of the book. With so many books around by authors

Book Rating:8.9 Characters: River Bottom Blues (Crime Fighting Bluesmen Book 1) First published: December 31st 2010Rating: 9 stars GoodReads:River Bottom Blues Review: It is rare to find a book that comes with its own soundtrack. This is one that should be read with some good blues playing on the turntable, and the tracks mentioned in the book accompany the narrative beautifully. The story takes the reader into blues history and then gathers steam toward a thrilling conclusion. Suspenseful, fascinating, and a lot of fun. Highly recommend. The Devil’s Blues (Crime Fighting Bluesmen Book 2) First published: January 31st 2013Rating: 8.8 stars GoodReads:The Devil’s Blues Review: Great read – fun – can’t put it down. Recent tragic events in our nation have made the story of this book plausible and all too real. Great writing Mr Bush – I could not put it down. One other point: I live in Amarillo and loved the mention of Amarillo and Lubbock – it made me smile. Now on to your next book.

Book Rating:7.2 Characters: Kinesis (Kinesis Book 1) First published: January 17th 2012Rating: 7.22 stars GoodReads:Kinesis Review: The idea of telekinesis has long fascinated me and to find a book exploring the subject in a real world speculative context rather than within an overblown superhero story was what attracted me to this novel. The story did not disappoint. I enjoyed the concept of the “kinetics” gradually descending into madness and the need for the role of a psych-kinetic investigator to track them down. The pacing of the plot was well done and the climax, though predictable, tied up events nicely before leading

As a result I bought this book & had it signed by the author. It’s very reminiscent of Raymond Chandler – a hard-bitten PI associating with both the wealthy and lower levels of society, but in 1930s Stockholm. The constant reference to street names became a bit annoying at times, but the story was extremely good and the denouement unexpected. Two more novels are planned in this series – I will d
Author: First Book Publish:2009 Books in series: 1 Avg. Book Rating:7.7 Characters: Mixed Blood (Cape Town Book 1) First published: December 21st 2009Rating: 7.72 stars GoodReads:Mixed Blood Review: It’s always a special moment when you discover a writer who can actually write. This book barely puts a foot wrong in the stylistic department. The characters exist on the edge of a world that has two faces. The sunny cosmopolitan part of Cape Town where the Euro trash bask in days that seem filled with only promise, and then the other side where there is no promise and no way out. Violence is as normal as bottled water in Camps Bay. Smith captures that contradiction perfectly.
