Author: First Book Publish:2012 Books in series: 1 Avg. Book Rating:7.2 Characters: Kinesis (Kinesis Book 1) First published: January 17th 2012Rating: 7.22 stars GoodReads:Kinesis Review: The idea of telekinesis has long fascinated me and to find a book exploring the subject in a real world speculative context rather than within an overblown superhero story was what attracted me to this novel. The story did not disappoint. I enjoyed the concept of the “kinetics” gradually descending into madness and the need for the role of a psych-kinetic investigator to track them down. The pacing of the plot was well done and the climax, though predictable, tied up events nicely before leading
Author: First Book Publish:2015 Books in series: 1 Avg. Book Rating:7.9 Characters: Clinch (Harry Kvist Book 1) First published: August 31st 2015Rating: 7.88 stars GoodReads:Clinch Review: Martin Holmen featured on Val McDermid’s New Blood panel at the Harrogate Crime Writing Festival. As a result I bought this book & had it signed by the author. It’s very reminiscent of Raymond Chandler – a hard-bitten PI associating with both the wealthy and lower levels of society, but in 1930s Stockholm. The constant reference to street names became a bit annoying at times, but the story was extremely good and the denouement unexpected. Two more novels are planned in this series – I will d
Author: First Book Publish:2010 Books in series: 1 Avg. Book Rating:7.2 Characters: Tumor (Tumor Book 1) First published: June 21st 2010Rating: 7.2 stars GoodReads:Tumor Review: When I first picked this up at the library I thought it was going to be some kind of dark mashup about a guy’s cancer and how it feels like some drake murder mystery. I read a lot of graphic memoirs and novels about health issues, and more than a few about cancer. And then, to see that the art is so quick-sketched as to be almost baffling, even ugly. And I was unfamiliar with the author and illustrator. I set it aside for a few days, not sure it would be worth my time.
Author: First Book Publish:2009 Books in series: 1 Avg. Book Rating:7.7 Characters: Mixed Blood (Cape Town Book 1) First published: December 21st 2009Rating: 7.72 stars GoodReads:Mixed Blood Review: It’s always a special moment when you discover a writer who can actually write. This book barely puts a foot wrong in the stylistic department. The characters exist on the edge of a world that has two faces. The sunny cosmopolitan part of Cape Town where the Euro trash bask in days that seem filled with only promise, and then the other side where there is no promise and no way out. Violence is as normal as bottled water in Camps Bay. Smith captures that contradiction perfectly.

I found the book by accident and am so glad I did. Bill and his cousin Jimmy will take you on a thrill ride, make you wonder what is around the next corner. I was lucky and found the book as a free down-load for my nook. Go ahead, take a chance on a new author, this book is worth the read.

Bit Dan Brownish (think Angels and Demons) but in Venice in the 1700s and better written! I was actually reading it while in Venice and got absolutely carried away by it’s pace, the chase, and the extravagance, delight and history of that extraordinary city. I couldn’t put it down!
Author: First Book Publish:1972 Books in series: 3 Avg. Book Rating:7.8 Characters: Sam Spade, Casper Gutman, Effie Perine, Joel Cairo, Brigid O'Shaughnessy, The Maltese Falcon (Nova Coleção Vampiro Book 1) First published: April 30th 1972Rating: 7.84 stars GoodReads:The Maltese Falcon Review: It is my third reading of Maltese Falcon, and I get astonished by it every single time. This founding novel of the noir never fails to remind me of chaos and our need to find a meaningful center. The plot, like that of Chandler novels, is labyrinthine (off course!). As Sam Spade takes us on a ride through the city, not much is clear prima facia, and on top of it, he has to struggle to hold his own. Wit keeps him going. It is a dangerous landscape. One has to think quick and think correct.
