Misturando História, lenda e a…

The main character Pierre transforms mentally and physically over the span of the novel, in addition to other compelling notables such as Natasha, Mary, Nicholas, Prince Andrew, and Platon Karateav. To his detriment, Tolstoy added quite a heavy-handed dose of philosophical and historical lectures. By the time I finished the s

This prequel to Saving Zasha is longer and would be good in the high school as well.

I’m always hesitant when it comes to reading Sherlock stories written by anyone but Sir Arthur, but was pleased with this. There are footnotes scattered throughout giving background information to previous cases and characters (in case the reader wasn’t aware) and it all worked out rather smashingly. It’s 4 stars instead of 5 because, frankly, I needed it to be more than a short story. I do have the next two lined up to read, though

On one hand, it has an interesting plot line. On the other hand, it is not very well written. The story jumps around a lot, with huge gaps in the time frames. While that may be better than too much tedious detail, after all to get from southern Britannica to the Northern frontier would take weeks in those days, but a bit more fleshing out would be in order. The characters are also very two dimensional, a little a

The competing thrones of Napoleon and Czar Alexander I are vividly recounted through the lives and deaths in three noble Russian families: the Rostovs, the Bolkonskys and Bezukhovs and their contemporaries. Both battle scenes and life on the home front are recounted. The domestic is related with sharp social commentary as witty as Jane Austin, and the fog of war and its
