Author:Barry Eisler, First Book Publish:2002 Books in series: 9 Avg. Book Rating:8.1 Characters: , John Rain, Midori Kawamura, Delilah, Dox Extremis (John Rain Book 1) First published: June 4th 2007Rating: 8.4 stars GoodReads:Extremis Review: Best thing I can say is that I was able to read the book in the backyard while Charlie prowled around. There is one more Rain book to go, but I need a break. Too much junk food in my reading diet lately. This wrapped up one of the big bad guys in the series. I noticed that a few chapters started moving to James Patterson length…which is not a good thing in my mind. Note to every author: Changing perspectives between characters can be done as a *section* break…unless you don’t trust that your readers will understand that.Still well-written locations and the fights were pretty believable. The sex scenes are still over the top, but then I have never had sex after killing someone, so maybe that is just how it is. I’m hoping to not be put in a position to find out.The book takes a while to end needing a separate coda with each character and Rain. But, what the hell. It passed the time…

What ever other critiques readers might have about Card’s story here, IMHO he nailed the military training environment, complete with psychological manipulation and Machiavellian intrigue. I am not surprised to hear rumors that Ender’s Game might even be promoted by the military training establishment. Even before this book was published, my training cadre made no secret of how they were using ‘significant emotional events’ to reshape our personalities to conform to the expected standard … Much like Graft attempts to manipulate encounters for Ender at the Battle School. This was made slightly…

I listened to this book on CD in the car.Issue 1 — Narrator. I’ve listened to 2 Spenser books narrated by Joe Mantegna and I absolutely love Joe as Spenser. Small Vices was read by Burt Reynolds. Burt has a beautiful, deep, rich, smooth voice…but he’s not Joe and therefore not Spencer. And it seems that his deep melted chocolate range is where I have hearing loss. There were parts that sounded like a bass melody with no words. When his voice…

The art of weaving a fantastic adventure and making it seem plausible – using science. Make no mistake, it is an art and one that an the likes of Heinlein and Asimov, practice with finesse. Robert Heinlein, Arthur C. Clarke, and Isaac Asimov are the grandmasters of the SciFi tradition. They defined the genre, IMO. And you can read Starman Jones to figure out why Heinlein counts among them.Come with an open mind, a spirit of adventure and wonder. Look at the stars and wonder, what if I was there! Rocket Ship Galileo (Heinlein Juveniles Book 2) First published: February 6th 1971Rating: 7.36 stars GoodReads:Rocket Ship Galileo Review: This was Robert A. Heinlein’s first full-length novel. Author: First Book Publish:1976 Books in series: 2 Avg. Book Rating:7.7 Characters: , Lazarus Long, Maureen Johnson The Number Of The Beast (The World As Myth Book 1) First published: September 30th 1991Rating: 7.22 stars GoodReads:The Number Of The Beast Review: I read this Heinlein book fairly soon after it came out, possibly 1981-1982. Prior to reading “The Number of the Beast” (also referred to as TNotB) I’d read nearly everything Heinlein had written. Time Enough For Love (The World As Myth Book 2) First published: June 30th 1976Rating: 7.9 stars GoodReads:Time Enough For Love Review: This was the only Heinlein book we were banned from reading when we were kids because it made such a convincing argument for sex outside of marriage or any other social construct.

Dune Chronicles – read online free book series

Author:Frank Herbert, Brian Herbert, Kevin J. Anderson First Book Publish:1987 Books in series: 8 Avg. Book Rating:8.1 Characters: Leto Atreides II, Duncan Idaho, Alia, Paul Atreides, Leto Atreides, Stilgar, Vladimir Harkonnen, Lady Jessica, Miles Teg, Darwi Odrade, Scytale, Muad’dib, Muad'dib, God Emperor of Dune (Dune Chronicles Book 1) First published: September 17th 1987Rating: 7.56 stars GoodReads:God Emperor of Dune Review: Since the last hundred or so pages of Children of Dune, I have slowly seen decline in the plot of the Dune series. Or at least, from the end of Children of Dune throughout God Emperor of Dune. There was something quite over the top about Leto II’s slow transformation into a sandworm and his eventual three and half thousand year reign over the Universe – as a sandworm/human hybrid. I think I found it hard to visualise the being he slowly transformed himself into – although the plot of God Emperor of Dune did not help matters either. From an interesting first half of the book, explaining what had happened for three millennia, the second half grew dry, with all the characters philosophising about consciousness, the nature of life and the universe they inhabit, and what it means to…

The Twins Of Petaybee – read online free book series
Popular Series / 31.10.2017

Author:Anne McCaffrey, Elizabeth Ann Scarborough First Book Publish:2006 Books in series: 3 Avg. Book Rating:7.5 Characters: Changelings (The Twins Of Petaybee Book 1) First published: December 25th 2006Rating: 7.4 stars GoodReads:Changelings Review: These were two of my favorite writers as a teenager and young adult, so I was very interested to catch up on some of the works I missed over the last few years. I don’t remember a lot of the details of the series preceding this one, but enough came back to me as I was reading to be able to follow along.I enjoyed the book overall and continue to appreciate their writing style, although I do think this particular book would appeal more to a younger audience, especially as the story focuses on the main characters early lives up to about age 10. Maelstrom (The Twins Of Petaybee Book 2) First published: December 25th 2006Rating: 7.58 stars GoodReads:Maelstrom Review: The second book in the Twins of Petaybee trilogy. I enjoyed this one also. The twins are aboard a spaceship headed for the planet where Ke-ola’s people are suffering. They discover that the planet is being bombarded with meteors and that the settlements are in danger. Against the…

Book Rating:9 Characters: The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy: Quandary Phase (Hitchhiker’s Guide: Radio Play Book 1) First published: October 24th 2005Rating: 8.64 stars GoodReads:The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy: Quandary Phase Review: I always remembered So Long and Thanks For All the Fish as being the weakest of the trilogy, but I didn’t remember it being this weak. I think that a lot of the problem with this adaptation by Dirk Maggs was in reducing the episode count from 6 to 4 which doesn’t allow time for the story to breathe. But then, is there really a story anyway? Is there even a central concept or idea to this or is it just an attempt to find something for the Hitchhiker’s characters to do, throwing in a Hitchhiker’s concept like “the search for God’s final message” which just doesn’t work in nearly as interesting ways as the original search for meaning in the universe did.I’d hesitate to call this a waste of time but it shows a creative lull in Adams writing and it’s also a bad, uncommitted adaptation of the material which…
