In 1941 Twelve year old Ivan has to flee his home in Leningrad and joins a group of partisans. While spying on the Germans, he becomes attached to two German Shepherds. When it is time to leave, can he save both dogs and a fellow partisan who is imprisoned? This prequel to Saving Zasha is longer and would be good in the high school as well.
